Jackson May Sue To Stop Memorabilia Sale
Article by Stef
More than 1,100 Jackson family items are set for auction in Las Vegas next month, but a representative for Michael Jackson says the pop star is considering legal action to stop the sale.
“Mr. Jackson was not aware and he is extremely upset that his memorabilia was included amongst the memorabilia that is being auctioned off,” said spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain.
The Jacksons Auction is scheduled May 30-31 at the Hard Rock hotel resort.
Guernsey’s auction house said items include Michael Jackson’s gold record for his “Thriller” album, handwritten lyrics for the Jackson Five hit “ABC” and a “Victory Tour” program signed by Jackson family members.Arlan Ettinger, founder and president of Guernsey’s, compared the sale to an auction of Elvis Presley/Graceland memorabilia he conducted in Las Vegas in 1999. “It certainly is in that sphere of landmark, high-profile, extraordinary auctions,” Ettinger told the Associated Press.
Michael Jackson, 48, has been living in Las Vegas while he evaluates proposals for a comeback after his 2005 acquittal in California on child molestation charges.
His father, former Jackson Five manager Joe Jackson, also lives in Las Vegas. He didn’t respond to a phone message seeking comment.
Ettinger said the collection was owned by luggage transportation company Universal Express Inc., of Boca Raton, Fla., which bought it last year from a New Jersey construction company owner.
The former owner, Henry Vaccaro, claimed a warehouse full of Jackson memorabilia after a failed business venture wound up in bankruptcy court. Michael Jackson and his sister Janet sued to stop Vaccaro from taking ownership, but a Los Angeles judge threw out Michael’s claim in 2006.
Other items include a test pressing of The Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back,” Marlon Jackson’s glitter jacket, Randy Jackson’s futuristic 1984 stage boots and a white fedora believed to be from Michael Jackson’s “Bad” music video.

Satellite Radio-The Sirius XM Music Lineup
Article by James Southland
Sirius XM Radio has quite the lineup. Some will argue that the merger has caused a decline in the quality of the lineup, while some are more than happy with the changes. Well, you can’t please everyone 100% of the time, but I think that Sirius XM does a fairly decent job of it. Here is their current music station lineup, by channel:

At least Sirius XM Radio is here to stay for awhile, and that’s a good thing.

NEVERLAND RANCH TO BECOME A MICHAEL JACKSON MEMORIAL PARK?

NEVERLAND RANCH TO BECOME A MICHAEL JACKSON MEMORIAL PARK?
MICHAEL Jackson’s Neverland Ranch could become a memorial park for the King of Pop.
An undisclosed Arab Prince courtesy of Arfaq offered an staggering ,000,000 for the acquisition of Neverland, which stipulated all furnishings including the main gates!
The late Bad hitmaker – who died of acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 – hadn’t lived at the address since he was cleared of child molestation charges in 2005, and handed over the estate to Colony Capital LLC, a private equity firm, amid financial worries in 2008.
But now, state assembly member Mike Davis has revealed he proposes to apply to the California State Senate for backing to turn the disused site into a Michael Jackson-style Graceland.
Owned partly by the Jackson estate, Neverland currently lies dormant, a far cry from its heyday when the singer wrote many of his greatest hits at the site – complete with zoo and Ferris wheel – and entertained hundreds of children with parties.
However, Mr. Davis suggested as California’s budget deficit currently stands at billion, it would be difficult for the State Parks Department to purchase the property alone, and therefore proposes a public-private partnership to put the plan into action.
Meanwhile, several members of the Official Michael Jackson Fans of Southern California Group have offered to clean the pop legend’s vandalized Great Masoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California – the singer’s final resting place – after other fans defaced the building with tributes written in permanent ink.
The group say they want cemetery officials to realize not all of the late star’s supporters are vandals.
Many of the fans are looking forward to visiting the Michael Jackson Memorial Park at Neverland if the plans go ahead whether it be owned by a Saudi Arabian Prince courtesy of Arfaq or even owned by the State of California itself. All in all it would be a wonderful place to visit for all those who loved Michael Jackson and his music. May he Rest in Peace.

The Most Famous Seats in the World
Article by Craftwood Interiors
Sitting down plays a large role in everybody’s life, just think about the amount of time you spend sitting down in an average day. In fact some recent estimates suggest that we spend over eight hours of each day sitting down. We sit when we eat, when we drive, when we are at work, when we watch television and the list goes on and on. So with all this time that an average human spends sitting there must be some pretty famous seats out there. Perhaps these seats could include some famous banquette seating which a king or queen dined from or maybe some famous booth seating in a fifties style café that James Dean or Marilyn Monroe sat in. These are arguably some very famous seats however it would appear that there are some even more famous seats out their. The first seat in this list is what is considered to be the most famous seat in cinema. It’s the bench seating from the film Forrest Gump. This famous seat is featured throughout the entire film and is where the kind, simple man tells the story of his life and how he met the love of his life Jenny. This seat isn’t in some film studio in Hollywood it is an actual bench located in Savannah, Georgia USA which thousands of people use everyday. The bench is mentioned in every tour of Savannah and is one of the cities most famous locations. The next in our list of famous seats is one of the most famous seats in musical history. You may be thinking it is a seat in the Sydney opera house, or perhaps one in Madison square garden, but you would be wrong. The next famous seat in this article is located in Graceland, Memphis Tennessee. That’s right it’s the world famous toilet which Elvis passed away on. Some people would argue that this does not count as a seat but what else do you do on a toilet if you don’t sit? The final seat in this article is what can be considered the most famous seat in the world. The pope’s chair or “throne” located in St. Peter’s Basilica is where the leader of the Catholic faith performs mass and where he makes some of the most important decisions for Catholicism. Almost a billion people across the globe look to this seat for guidance from the man who sits in it and that is why it can be considered the most famous seat in the world. So there you have it those are perhaps the three most famous seats in the world from three of the most influential mediums in the world, film, music and religion.

Elvis Struggles With His Mother’s Passing
Article by Larry Geller
In Elvis’ bedroom upstairs at Graceland, we sat one afternoon as he shared his feelings about his mother’s passing in 1958. It was the most anguished, disoriented and confusing time in his life: drafted into the Army, being yanked from the career that had taken off two years earlier, unsure what what he would face when he returned.
“Listen, you can’t know what my experience was back then. I mean I was losing everything, everything I dreamed of my whole life. Just when everything was on track, Uncle Sam calls me. My career came to a screeching end; all the movies I was starring in, my music, everything. You know, Larry, I seriously wondered if anybody would remember me after I served my time, that I’d be some kind of flash-in-the pan. You know, people would say, “hey, who’s that guy with the weird name who used to shake all over when he sang, and the girls would scream?”
Then the first thing they do when they draft me is buzz my hair off!” Elvis shook his head incredulously. “Man, can you imagine that, we’re talking about my hair! Then, when I’m struggling to cope with all that, my mom was taken from me! My mom was the single most important person in my life, my best friend; I mean, she’s the one I could always talk to…man, no matter what. That’s a shock you can never really get over.”
“I’ll tell you something, Larry, even though I lost my mom I had to rise to the occasion. I love this country; where else can you dream the impossible dream? Believe me, no one knows better than I do. I’ve lived that dream. My mom kept tellin’ me, even when we were dirt poor, that I could be anything I wanted to be, if I set my mind to it.”
“But I really didn’t have to go into the regular Army if I didn’t want to. I was told that if I wanted to I could do the whole thing in a special service unit; you know, represent the army and go around to the other bases around the world, talk to the guys, maybe entertain and sing. That’s just not me. I just turned their offer down. I didn’t want any special treatment or anything like that; I just wanted to let everyone know that I was just like every other guy.”
Elvis was a traditionalist; he had a deep sense of America’s history and his own Southern roots. He drew his energy and motivation from the American soil and its people. “Sure, America’s not perfect, but it’s the only place I want to live. I mean, who else is as free as we are? People will even risk their lives to get here. America is the best hope we have for this world. I’m proud to be an American and I’m proud that I served my country.”
Elvis embodied the American dream. He rose from the most extreme poverty to unprecedented fame and fortune. He also embodied the American spirit; he was buoyant, audacious, fearless and certainly a pioneer. Just like America, Elvis embraced everyone; whether it was a President, a clerk or a delivery boy, everyone was treated identically by him.
Despite the passage of time, Elvis is still an inspiration to the millions of lives he has touched all over the world. Many who weren’t even born when he passed away. Elvis’ image, his music and the force of his personality continue as a spirited, living presence.
Elvis goes beyond being a legend; he’s an historic icon. Yet one of the great ironies of his unique life can be revealed in a remark he once made, “I wonder,” he said softly…”I wonder if I’ll ever be remembered?”
I think it’s safe to say that we all remember him, and appreciate him for the remarkable human being he was – uniquely American, yet belonging to the world.

The Real King of Rock
Article by Larry Geller
Elvis Presley was crowned the King of Rock ‘n Roll. Yet he transcended rock and roll, his musical gift and his remarkable voice shining gospel, rhythm and blues, country, rockabilly and even pop. Along with his musical legacy was his huge success as a major movie star. But Elvis was reluctant to accept the name given him by the world: his public and the world press.
I was styling Elvis’ hair one evening at Graceland, and he and I had a conversation about certain elements of his singing career and all the different genres of music that he’s conquered. Elvis unexpectedly spun around in his chair, saying, “Ya know what a lot of folks call me Larry; the king, like I’m the guy who created rock n’ roll or something. No way man, no way, they all got it wrong. Rock n’ roll started way back in American history, deep in the South when the poor ol’ Negroes were picking cotton in the fields, slaving their lives away. No one had to tell them what pain and suffering really was. They woud have to sing and pour out their hearts to The Lord just to make it through the day. It was their souls that were crying out in their singing. Listen, that’s where most of our real gospel music actually comes from. White people just imitated their music. From early morning til late at night, they all sang, making up the words as they went along, in the cotton fields an’ plantations. Before long, that slave music became part of their praying in church; before long that kind of music became part of the singing in white churches. Then their music started to change and spread way beyond religion and grew into honky-tonk and Dixieland. This is where it all started, in the ol’ Mississippi Delta, then downtown in Memphis in Beale street, and New Orleans. And then it moved north to St. Louis and Chicago where the blues, ragtime and jazz started; then right up into our times it got to be rhythm n’ blues then rock ‘n roll. Here’s the real truth Larry, I was just lucky enough to come along at the right time – and all I really did was to take their music and present it to a white audience.”
December of 1976, we were in Las Vegas one night after the show. We just left Elvis’ dressing room and had gotten into the elevator heading up to Elvis’ penthouse at the Hilton International. Two teenagers ran up and excitedly screamed, “Elvis you’re the king!” Just before the doors closed he smiled gently and pointed upwards. “There’s only one King. I might be in the saddle but I’m not on the throne.”

Throughout Nashville 4G Strikes a Chord
Article by Jon Jacobson
You don’t have to be a resident of Graceland to realize that throughout Tennessee and the city of Nashville, people are finding that new technological services like mobile wimax are striking the right chord. It seems that Elvis wasn’t the only one that had it right. How are these ordinary citizens finding that such services serve them in their ordinary lives? In Nashville, for instance, the advantage of faster internet has to be considered through the lens of music-lovers. Chilean Miners Continue to Have a Happy Ending
Article by Jori Sams
The world was captivated for about a day. With much anticipation, we wanted to witness the miracle ourselves. We were gripped with emotion and glued to our seats.
After all, miracles don’t happen every day. And 33 miners have never been trapped in the bowels of the earth 2,300 feet below ground before. How does someone go about a rescue of this magnitude?
Everything Happens for a Reason
San Jose mine could not perform the operation. It was a disaster that had long cast its forboding presence over those working in the mine. But they stayed for the money.
It almost cost them their lives.
But “Los 33″ instead gave us a story for the ages. Bound together as a sub-community trying to function and survive below the earth. There were fist fights. A lot of them, they reported.
Perhaps it only made them closer. Stronger. Forced to make amends in the close living environment.
“Los 33″ Make a Pact
Before they made their way up into the fresh air again, the group of miners unanimously agreed to put all of the monies they would be awarded into a pot for the sharing. There is much to be shared, as well. It seems philanthropists were feeling quite tickled over the rescue. The result was overwhelming generosity.
Some of the wives will be relieved. They have stated if their husbands go back into a mining career, they will kill them. Seems fair.
The Miners are Doing Well
It is only due the relentless pursuit of reporters that have given some of the 33 Chilean miners from the San Jose mine seconds thoughts about walking above ground. They are being swarmed and hounded. It seems the miners have still to learn the price of fame.
Nevermind. Some have been welcomed to Graceland. Others have been given incredible jobs. The leader of the pack is hounded by big-time business managers to learn of his success in keeping the lot happy.
Many have experienced conversions to the Christian faith. A lot, in fact. And one miner just completed the New York City Marathon! What? He has not been free for even a month! Incredible!
Who Doesn’t Love a Happy Ending
Hopefully, miners, you will forgive the eager journalists and cameramen. This story will continue to be watched as the changing lives of these men and their families unfold. This is a real feel-good story that just doesn’t come along often.
The impact of the devastation reached around the globe when it first came out that 33 miners were trapped in Chile. No one was expecting the result to be more than grim. Nearly the whole world, except maybe China, was absolutely ecstatic about the rescue. It was no “minor” thing.

Eugene Field
Article by jekky
BiographyField was born in St. Louis, Missouri. After the death of his mother in 1856, he was raised by a cousin, Mary Field French, in Amherst, Massachusetts.Field’s father, attorney Martin Field, was famous for his representation of Dred Scott, the slave who sued for his freedom. Field filed the complaint in this famous case (Dred Scott vs. John Sandford [sic], referred to as the lawsuit that started the Civil War) on behalf of Scott in the federal court in St. Louis, Missouri.Field attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His father, Martin Field, died when Eugene was 19, and he subsequently dropped out of Williams after eight months. Next he went to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, but dropped out after a year. Then he went to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, where his brother Roswell was also attending. He tried acting and studied law with little success. He then set off for a trip through Europe but returned to the United States six months later, penniless. Field then set to work as a journalist for the St. Joseph Gazette in Saint Joseph, Missouri, in 1875. That same year he married Julia Comstock, with whom he had eight children. For the rest of his life he arranged for all the money he earned to be sent to his wife, saying that he had no head for money himself.Field soon rose to become city editor of the Gazette. He became known for his light, humorous articles written in a gossipy style, some of which were reprinted by other newspapers around the country. It was during this time that he wrote the famous poem Lovers Lane about a street in St. Joseph, Missouri. From 1876 through 1880 Field lived in St. Louis, first as an editorial writer for the Morning Journal and subsequently for the Times-Journal. After a brief stint as managing editor of the Kansas City Times, he worked for two years as editor of the Denver Tribune. In 1883 Field moved to Chicago where he wrote a humorous newspaper column called Sharps and Flats for the Chicago Daily News. His home in Chicago was near the intersection of N. Clarendon and W. Hutchinson in the neighborhood now known as Buena Park.He first started publishing poetry in 1879, when his poem “Christmas Treasures” appeared in A Little Book of Western Verse. Over a dozen volumes of poetry followed and he became well known for his light-hearted poems for children, perhaps the most famous of which is “Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.” Field also published a number of short stories, including “The Holy Cross” and “Daniel and the Devil.”The Dinky Bird by Maxfield Parrish, an illustration from Poems of Childhood by Eugene FieldField died in Chicago at the age of 45. He is buried at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Kenilworth, Illinois. His 1901 biography by S. Thompson states that he was originally buried in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, but his son-in-law, Senior Warden of the Church of the Holy Comforter, had him reinterred on March 7, 1926. LegacySeveral of his poems were set to music with commercial success. Many of his works were accompanied by paintings from Maxfield Parrish. His former home in St. Louis is now a museum. A memorial to him, a statue of the “Dream Lady” from his poem, “Rock-a-by-Lady” (see lyrics, below), was erected in 1922 at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. There is also a park and fieldhouse named in his honor in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood.Field has his own star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Numerous elementary schools throughout the Midwest are named for him, e.g. Eugene Field Elementary School in Wheeling, Illinois, Park Ridge, Illinois, St. Joseph, Missouri, Hannibal, Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, Manhattan, KansasSioux Falls, South Dakota and Beaumont, Texas. There is also a Eugene Field Elementary School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Littleton, Colorado, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Altus, Oklahoma, and San Diego, California. A dormitory in the Orchard Hill residential area at the University of Massachusetts Amherst also bears Field’s name.Field has been credited with one of the most devastating witticisms in the history of dramatic criticism. Reviewing an actor named Creston Clarke in the title role of King Lear, Field commented of Clarke’s performance that he “played the king as if under momentary apprehension that somebody else was about to play the ace”.
