Wanda Jackson – Candy Man

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948′s oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com Wanda Jackson was only halfway through high school when, in 1954, country singer Hank Thompson heard her on an Oklahoma City radio show and asked her to record with his band, the Brazos Valley Boys. By the end of the decade, Jackson had become one of America’s first major female country and rockabilly singers. Jackson was born in Oklahoma, but her father Tom — himself a country singer who quit because of the Depression — moved the family to California in 1941. He bought Wanda her first guitar two years later, gave her lessons, and encouraged her to play piano as well. In addition, he took her to see such acts as Tex Williams, Spade Cooley, and Bob Wills, which left a lasting impression on her young mind. Tom moved the family back to Oklahoma City when his daughter was 12 years old. In 1952, she won a local talent contest and was given a 15-minute daily show on KLPR. The program, soon upped to 30 minutes, lasted throughout Jackson’s high school years. It’s here that Thompson heard her sing. Jackson recorded several songs with the Brazos Valley Boys, including “You Can’t Have My Love,” a duet with Thompson’s bandleader, Billy Gray. The song, on the Decca label, became a national hit, and Jackson’s career was off and running. She had wanted to sign with Capitol, Thompson’s label

ZZ Top – Doubleback

110000 views. Wow! Thanks! Doubleback Music video Copyright © 1990 THE MUSIC DOES NOT BELONG TO ME! IT BELONGS TO ZZ TOP! Lyrics : I got shot through a space not long ago, I thought I knew the place so well. It wasnt the same, now it goes to show, Sometime you never can tell. Im lookin high and low, dont know where to go, I got to double back, my friend. The only way to find, what I left behind I got to double back again, double back again. You know Im movin on in this fine machine, Rollin on through the night. Seein things like Ive never seen And its taking me outta sight. Lookin high and low, dont know where to go, I got to double back, my friend. The only way to find, what I left behind I got to double back again, double back again. Its got me up and down, I been lost and found, Down in a deep dark hole. Looks like my luck has changed, I been rearranged And Im coming out on a roll. Lookin high and low, dont know where to go, I got to double back, my friend. The only way to find, what I left behind I got to double back again, double back again

Rock-A-Doodle part 7

default Rock A Doodle part 7

directed by Don Bluth year: 1991 Rock-A-Doodle is about a rooster named Chanticleer who raises the sun every morning with his Elvis Presley-esque crowing. One morning the sun rises without him, and ridiculed as a phony, he leaves the farm to work in the city. The denizens of the farm come to find that Chanticleer actually is needed to raise the sun, and to stop the flooding brought by the sunlessness and the evil owl duke’s magic, they go to the city to bring him back.

The Next Step Is Love…Elvis

From the soundtrack “That’s The Way It Is”. (words & music by Evans – Parnes) Yesterday, has slipped away And the sun is a welcoming the evening Shadows of a perfect day And the next step is love The next step is love We’ve walked barefoot through the misty meadows Laughing at each other in the rain Made some faces at some people in the park And didn’t bother to explain Fun, fun, look at us run Going nowhere special really fast But we’ve yet to taste the icing on the cake That we’ve been baking with the past And the next step is love So what are we waiting for? The next step is love Girl, it’s for sure Yesterday, has slipped away And the sun is a welcoming the evening Shadow of a perfect day And the next step is love The next step is love Love will be a place to run to From the world they’ve willed to you and me We’ll be closer than we’ve ever been Though looking back it’s so hard to believe Hang it all out or bring it all in The best we’ve picked upon the way to now Changes are coming but together We can make it through somehow Cause the next step is love So what are we waiting for? tWell The next step is love Girl, it’s for sure Yesterday, has slipped away And the sun is a welcoming the evening Shadow of a perfect day And the next step is love The next step is love Yes, it’s love Next step is love Yes, it’s love Next step is love

Doug Church “Tears in heaven”

This is a song sung by Doug Church ETA from the USA and the video was mixed by Steve Preston ETA from the UK. I think it captures the essence of how they both feel about Elvis Presley.

Ronnie Dove – Right Or Wrong

This cover of the Wanda Jackson tune was one of Ronnie’s biggest hits, going all the way to #14 in Billboard, and one of two records he released to peak at that number (he had no higher charting records on billboard). This is also arguably his best Diamond 45, too. Elvis Presley was at the recording session, he was waiting for his turn in the studio when Ronnie was finishing, however one piece of advice Elvis had for Ronnie was to “put a high note at the end of the song, that’s your trademark now”, refering to his ending note on his top 40 hit Say You. For your visual pleasure, a pressing of the 45 made in India… one of few overseas Ronnie Dove records that I own. This one recently made it onto the Ace Records cd The Golden Age Of American Popular Music Volume 2, which is a fantastic cd that is well worth picking up. You can expect to see more Ronnie Dove uploads from me in the future, as well as many more on the Diamond record label as well. For now, you can enyjoy great tunes like this one live every single night of the week at www.topshelfoldies.com!

recorded in 1969 Bass:Armond Morales Lead:Terry Blackwood Tenor :Jim Murray Baritone:Roger Wiles
